Another ER Trip

I now feel like the mom of two boys. Jake and Ben have each had a trip to the ER within the last week. I have to give a little background info to make this a really good story for sleep-deprived mothers everywhere.

I normally work every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights 7pm to 7am. This week was a little different. I had to work Tuesday and Wednesday 7p-7a and Thursday 3p-3a. On Thursday, I was in sweetest slumber ever when Marty came in to tell me that Ben had cut his finger. "Okay, put a band aide on it." Well, the bleeding wouldn't stop. "You'll need to take him to the ER" I told Marty. I was going to shower and get ready for work since I had to go back at 3pm. I got to the ER half and hour before my shift. Poor Ben had to get his finger cauterized. He cried and cried. He didn't want me to leave. I felt so guilty. How do you leave your baby when he is in tears? It was the hardest thing I had to do. I even cried in the elevator going up to the NICU. I had pictures, but I don't know what happened to them.

I will say that I am thankful for a wonderful husband who is an awesome father. I have two healthy sons who I love more than anything I can think of. I come from a wonderful family. My sisters are my best friends (next to Marty). I am so many blessings in my life because of the church. I know that I can be with my family forever.

Any Ideas?

I have no idea what to get Mart for Christmas. Not only do I have Christmas to think of, but our eighth anniversary is December 1. I do not know what to get him. Do you have any ideas? What does he want, need, etc.? What kind of gifts do men like? I am seriously at a total loss. I was going to get him a personal trainer. I asked for someone at the gym to call me. I gave them my cell number so Marty wouldn't find out (it's super hard to surprise him). Of course Gold's Gym called during the day when Marty was home, I was asleep after work, and Marty answered my phone. Marty NEVER answers my phone. I went through a lot of trouble trying to surprise him. Now on to plan B.

I've had a few generic ideas: a big LCD tv, surround sound system, clothes, shoes. He's not into sports (thank goodnes) so tickets to sporting events are out. If you have any ideas, email me jhasay@gmail.com.

Jenny's Top Five

Ginger tagged me. I have to list my top five quirks. Marty had to give his input, because who knows you better than your eternal sweetheart? Here goes nothing:

1. I love to nap. I get Jake and Ben down for their afternoon naps, and I lay down for a little afternoon siesta. I LOVE it. It is definitely a Larson trait. Marty says he has never seen a family like to nap as much as we do. At least I have a partial excuse. I work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and I get exhausted.

2. Whenever Marty and I go anywhere, I have to drive. I HATE being the passenger. I have to be the one in control of the speed and direction of the car, the music, and the climate of the car. Marty doesn't mind being chauffered around. And technically he's not supposed to drive in diminished light conditions due to his RP. On a totally different note, if you want a thrill ride, drive a volvo turbo XC 90; I miss mine so much. It kicks trash.

3. I have to throw out left overs that are older than 2 days, especially if it's meat. I just have this thing about old food in the fridge. If it's not eaten in two days, chances are it will become a petrie dish!

4. Along the lines of food, I cannot stand ice cream that has a chance to get ice crystals inside the carton. To me, it's a sign of freezer burn. YUCK!

5. Marty says I have a very wicked sense of humor. I must admit that I do come off with some real zingers. He always says "I never knew my little southern belle could be so naughty!" Oh well, it's in the genes. I take after my Aunt Lorsey. She is a whole other story. I will have to blog about her stories next time.

6. I know I only needed five, but I thought of one more all on my own. Marty will be so proud of me. I am quite embarassed to admit this, but I LOVE QVC!! I know, I know. I am not your stereotypical QVC fan (an 85-year-old woman named Mable living in Georgia!). You would not believe some of the neat things they have on there: Bare Minerals Makeup, this awesome Ojua shampoo and conditioner, a 52 inch SHARP LCD HDTV for only $1500, etc. I especially love it this time of year with all of the seasonal merchandise they show. I might have to go check their website before I finish this blog to see what Today's Special Value is!

Well, these are some of my quirks. Nothing too outlandish. But they definitely make me the wonderful, funloving, beautiful person I am proud of!

If you are reading this entry, you have to tell me what one of your quirks are in your comment.

The First of Many

Well, Jacob had his first of many accident-related ER trips last night. He was riding his Razor scooter, ran into another scooter, and fell. He hit his nose of even another scooter on the ground. His nose took the majority of the impact. There were lots of tears and a lot of blood. Here is Jake in the car ready to go:

Here he is in ER #11 ("because I'm 11-years-old mom?"). He thought it was pretty cool having his own TV that could move on an arm attached to the wall. He had lots of fun with the bed that can go up and down. Pretty cool. Here are some more pics.

All in all, he had a fun trip, literally and figuratively. No broken nose. Just bruised and swollen. Oh, his favorite part: he has to eat ice cream to help with the bleeding and swelling!

Birthday Festivities

Well our Baby Ben has turned one-year old as you may know. We had cake and ice cream with Marty's family. We had quite a grand time. The kiddies enjoyed opening all of Ben's gifts, and Ben enjoyed the tissue paper. Figures! We got the cake from Cosco. It was yummy: white cake with vanilla cheesecake mousse in the middles, frosted with buttercream.

Here are some pics of the day:

Happy 1st Birthday Baby Ben!!

It's hard to believe that one year ago Ben came into our lives. I will never forget going to Dr. Boheen's office for a bp check. It was high, and she said "let's have a baby today." I called Marty from the office to tell him to come home. He was up north for a meeting.

Our sweet baby boy made his debut at 2:50pm. It was so neat to be conscious for his birth. I missed out on Jake's birthday. I loved hearing my baby cry for the first time, which made me cry.

I so joyed everything about that day (except for the five hours of vomiting after my c-section). Ben is definitely worth everything I will ever do for him.

Here are some pictures from his fun-filled first year:

Trick or Treat

What a fun time of the year, especially if your name is Jacob or Benjamin Asay. Our little angels had a wonderful time carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating.

Jacob was "Nick," the red ranger from Power Rangers Mystic Force. He also had a monkey costume that was supposed to be his Halloween costume. The red ranger costume was a Toys R Us clearance item after Christmas last year that Jake bought for $2.00.

Benjamin was a happy frog. What a sweet and adorable little angel. He is sooooo mild and mellow. What a happy baby.

Here are some pictures to enjoy:
